Chris Burkstaller, PGA

GENERAL MANAGER/DIRECTOR OF GOLF

Chris is originally from Mandeville, Louisiana and attended The University of Louisiana-Lafayette. Chris began his career in the golf business at Covington Country Club and a youngster and moved to the northeast part of the United States and worked at many high-profile clubs such as Ridgewood Country Club, TPC River Highlands, Wannamoisett Country Club and spent winters working at Bear Lakes Country Club in West Palm Beach, Florida. After many years in the northeast, Chris came home to take the Head Golf Professional position at Lakewood Country Club in New Orleans, Louisiana and the The University Club in Baton Rouge. Chris also spent time teaching full time at Santa Maria Golf Course in Baton Rouge. He also was Head Golf Professional at Greystone Golf and Country Club in Denham Springs and had an earlier stint at The Island before coming back last October. Chris has a passion for teaching and merchandising and is a two-time winner of the Gulf States PGA Merchandiser of the Year and is also the 2019 Gulf States PGA Youth Player Development Award Winner. Chris is the recipient of the 2022 Gulf States PGA Louisiana Chapter Professional of the Year. In his spare time Chris enjoys fishing and cooking.

Gioire Manguno

PGA ASSOCIATE PROFESSIONAL

Gioire Manguno is from Plaquemine, Louisiana, where his passions for golf and music grew. Known for his friendly nature, he loves creating a fun atmosphere for everyone at The Island. You can often find him on the golf course with his dad, Frank Sr. and brother Frank Jr., both long-time members of the Island Golf Course. Gioire began working at the Island Golf Course in 2019,  Gioire is a dedicated and hardworking PGA associate and is currently working towards becoming a Class A PGA Professional.  He enjoys teaching the game to others, with 4.5 years of experience at the Island, he looks to add many more and is committed to making the course as good as it can be, all while bringing his vibrant personality to every interaction.  Giorie plays drums at the local church and enjoys pickleball and watching football.

Robbie Welborn

Golf Course Superintendent

Robbie comes to the Island after working at Beaver Creek since 2016. Before Beaver Creek he was at Copper Mill for 3 years. Robbie started his career as an Assistant Superintendent at Sherwood Forest Country Club and was there from 2001 to 2014. Robbie is married to Angie and has one son Reegan. In Robbie’s spare time he enjoys racing, shooting guns, fixing things, and watching LSU Football.

Robert Landry

Assistant Golf Course Superintendent

Robert comes to The Island after a career in IT where he earned a Technology Degree from Louisiana Tech. Robert switched gears in his career choice to the Golf Course Maintenance industry a little over 2 years ago and began his journey at Greystone Golf and Country Club in Denham Springs. Robert is currently enrolled at Penn State University earning an associate degree in Turf Management and has an end goal of being a Golf Course Superintendent in the future. Robert is very excited at the new challenge here at the Island and looks forward to working with and learning from Robbie Welborn, our Golf Course Superintendent. In his spare time, he enjoys golf and dabbles in music. Robert is single and lives in Denham Springs, LA.
