Dear Island Members,

As The Island Country Club celebrates its tenth anniversary, the staff and management would sincerely like to thank our loyal members for their full support since the inception of The Island until the present time. As we look back on the last ten years and look forward to the next ten years, The Island continues to search for opportunities to better serve our members and guests.

Beginning in mid-October, The Island will now feature a lunch time buffet on Tuesday through Friday and Sunday from 11:00 am to 1:30 pm. The Island Bar & Grill will also simplify and change the menu to facilitate a better and quicker dining experience.

Starting November 1, 2009, The Island will allow blue jeans, or denim, to be worn throughout the clubhouse. Being in a petrochemical corridor, many business professionals, including many of our members, wear jeans to work. In addition, most employees affiliated with the petrochemical industry have a limited time for lunch. Having the new buffet and allowing blue jeans will allow these members and guests to enjoy a good meal in a great setting in a reasonable amount of time.

Most country clubs in the Baton Rouge area do allow blue jeans in their clubhouses, but not on the golf course. Baton Rouge Country Club, Country Club of Louisiana, New Orleans Country Club and most others in this state do allow this practice, some with more restrictions than others. As with most of the area clubs, this new policy is for the clubhouse only. Blue jeans, or denim, will not be allowed on the golf course or the practice facility.

We fully understand the importance of dress code to our many loyal members. Proper attire will continue to be enforced: collared shirts must be worn and pants must be neat in appearance. No dirty, torn, bleached or otherwise altered blue jeans will be allowed. If you would like to discuss this matter, please contact me in the business office.

We have also implemented a new member pricing structure in the Golf Shop. The Island members and A.W.S shareholders will now receive an automatic discount on new merchandise purchased in the Golf Shop. The discounts are as follows:

15% discount on all Soft Goods*
10% discount on all Hard Goods*
No discount on Golf Balls or Gloves
No discount on Sale Priced Merchandise

*Soft Goods – Shirts, Shoes, Hats/Visors, Socks, Belts, Jackets, Windshirts, and Sunglasses
*Hard Goods – Irons, Woods, Wedges, Putters, Hybrids, and Golf Bags

The Island will also be converting part of the men’s locker room into a conference room and business center. The existing locker room will be transformed into two separate rooms. The new locker room will be smaller in size, but not in comfort. The new conference room and business center will feature state of the art audio and visual products to accommodate seminars of up to thirty people at tables and up to fifty people without tables. This area will be multi-functional and will allow The Island more flexibility in scheduling events. If you are interested in learning more about this project, please contact me in the business office.

To celebrate the Island’s tenth anniversary, the management of the Island is ordering special members-only commemorative hats that will be given to every member of The Island as of September 30, 2009. When these hats are received, we will distribute them out through the Business Office and the Golf Shop.

Sincerely,
The Island Country Club

The Island Country Club Follows Global Green

The Island Country Club has announced it is converting to solar power for a portion of the golf club’s energy needs. Gulf South Solar is set to begin the installation next week in a project that will be their largest to date in Louisiana.

“The new system will generate 31,680 watts of DC power utilizing 160 solar panels which will cover approximately 3000 square feet of the southward facing side of the roof of our cart barn,” said Glen Clouatre, General Manager at The Island. Clouatre said the system will provide supplemental power for the main clubhouse, golf shop, pool, tennis and swimming clubhouse and golf cart barn and won’t be visible from the front of the clubhouse.
